Going to California: Part 6

This was the last day of Mommy's work week. It was also Daddy's birthday! Mommy went to the plant bright and early and Logan and Daddy finished packing up the hotel room to check out. After taking it easy and making sure everything was ready to go we headed back to the Sensory Time place to wait until Mommy got done with work. When we got there a preschool class was in session but we were still allowed in. They cleared out after a little while and the only kids in there were Logan and a little girl. Pretty much all the toys, and no waiting!

Once we got the all clear from Momma we packed ourselves up and went to pick her up. Logan got to check out some displays while we waited for Mommy to finish one final thing. Then it was time to get back on the road.

Destination: Costa Mesa!

We decided to spend the last few days of our trip near the beach with Mommy's Uncle Paul and Aunt Sharon. Logan slept in the car for a little over an hour. This worked perfectly since it took about that long to get there. Paul and Sharon had even made a wonderful home cooked dinner. It was really nice since we had been eating out for most of our meals since we got to California. As a special treat for Daddy's Birthday they got an Ice cream cake. It was very good and Logan devoured his piece. Logan also got to make a new friend while we were down there. Paul and Sharon's dog Rufus. Logan did really well with him and was very gentle when petting him. You could tell Rufus was expecting Logan to be a little more physical with him as he kinda backed away initially. Unlike most other kids Rufus has had dealings with, Logan was very careful. He really enjoyed watching Rufus do what he does.
Mommy and Daddy had packed a few toys to keep Logan entertained on the trip but at Paul and Sharon's they weren't necessary. They had a few toys tucked away for their grandkids and they brought them out for Logan. once he got ahold of 2 "Shake-n-go" cars of Lightning McQueen and Mater from the movie, "Cars" he was entertained for a while. Mommy, Daddy, Paul, and Sharon, chatted and played with Logan until bedtime.

Going to California: Part 5

Like the day before it was just Logan and Daddy for the bulk of it. We kicked it off with a big breakfast at the hotel again.

After stuffing ourselves silly we made our way to a place that Mommy found while researching the trip. It is called, Sensory Time. Basically a large indoor playground with slides climbing structures, trampolines, and all sorts of toys. There was also a room with large bean bags and various play tables. One had trains. Logan likes trains. We spent the rest of the morning there as Logan was having a blast. That and it was pouring down rain for most of the morning so doing something inside was a plus.

I think its a cross between a big wheel, a bumper car, and a wheel chair. Whetever it was Logan liked it.

A geodesic dome. You could climb it or crawl through it. The extra soft pillow inside was perfect for dropping onto.

After his nap we decided to take a walk in old town. We parked at one end and walked to the other. Occasionally stopping in a shop to browse. Logan really liked one shop dedicated to model railroads. There was also a Parrot in it that talked. I think it confused him.

Going to California: Part 4

Daddy and Logan were left to their own devices today. Daddy had a plan though. While researching things to do while in Temecula, Daddy found a rather unique children's museum. It is called, Professor Pennypickles Workshop. After a wonderful hot breakfast in the dining room of the hotel we went directly there. Each room had a theme and lots of things for little hands to touch and investigate. There was a maze with black lights and fluorescent drawings on the corridors. Logan got a kick out of seeing his clothes glow. Room after room there was lots to do and explore.

Like this clock that looked like you could touch the gears but if you tried your hand could never quite touch it.

There was also these mirrors set in such a way that all you saw was yourself. A lot!

Logan liked it.

Logan would have spent hours playing in this hot air balloon basket. he came back to it a few times. there was lots of dials and gauges, along with a telescope and periscope.

After thoroughly exploring the place, we looked around the gift shop and got him a little stuffed mouse that you see hiding out everywhere in the museum. His name is Beaker. Then it was off to find some lunch and take Logan back to the hotel for a nap.
That afternoon Logan and Daddy grabbed some more bread and took a short walk over to another duck pond right near the hotel. These ducks were aggressive and Logan loved every minute of it. Watching the ducks go crazy trying to grab the pieces of bread that he threw into the water. He kept shrieking with excitement and giggling when the ducks would fight over one piece.

Going to California: Part 3

Today was the first day Mommy was going to have to go to work. Fortunately it was going to be in the afternoon so we had her for the morning. We also had her aunt Judy come up again and show us a duck pond where feeding was allowed. All the duck ponds near us have banned feeding so this was a novelty. The ducks weren't particularly aggressive or hungry it seemed so we usually only had a couple nearby at any given time. Logan had fun ripping up the bread and tossing it into the water for the ducks though. We also wandered around a little when we stumbled upon a playground. Daddy says the nice thing about playgrounds in Southern California is that a lot of them have shade built onto them. Logan didn't seem to care or notice as he was busy running around it. Daddy ran around with him while Mommy and Aunt Judy chatted. That is until Daddy twisted his ankle. A little girl walked in front of the slide Logan and he were on and Daddy planted his foot so he wouldn't run into her. Unfortunately his body tried to keep going and it twisted. That's when Mommy took over.
A little while later, Judy's son, Tommy and his girlfriend, Collette, came to join us. We all played for a while and went back to feeding the ducks for a few minutes. Then we all went out for lunch. We all chatted and caught up with each others lives, but before long it was time to take Mommy to work. Oddly Logan didn't put up much of a fight when we dropped her off and we soon found out why. We barely made it out of the parking lot and he was snoozing in the back. Tired kiddo.
Daddy and Judy took Logan back to the hotel and put him down for a nap in the bed. While Logan slept Daddy and Judy sat and talked, swapping child raising and life stories.
After his nap we played in the hotel room until Mommy came home. Judy left shortly afterward, which left just the 3 of us. Dinner and playtime, then off to bed for all.

Going to California: Part 2

The morning of our first full day in California we decided to take advantage of the free breakfast at the hotel, then head to a couple of stores to stock up on supplies for the week before heading to Temecula where Mommy was going to be needed until the 19th.

After the supplies were obtained, coffee was acquired, and lunch was eaten, we headed inland from the coast and headed for Temecula. Logan fell asleep a short way into the hour or so drive. He woke up again right as we got to the Hotel in Temecula. We checked in and checked it out to make sure everything was ok. Fortunately, it was a 2 room suite and that way Logan would be able to have his own sleeping space like he is used to. After we got our bags up to the room we got a hold of Cambria's Aunt Judy and her Fiance Giovanna who live really close and went out to dinner with them.
After a nice dinner and some catching up we headed back to the hotel so Judy and Giovanna could head back home. We had a little time to waste so we found a playground to let Logan run around and get his energy out before bedtime.

Going to California: Part 1

Mommy was told by her employer that she was going to be needed for a week in Southern California. Instead of leaving Daddy and Logan behind, we decided to make a vacation out of it. This also meant Logan was going to be able to take his first plane ride! In the weeks prior we kept reminding him and explaining everything we were gonna do. We told him all about the airport, getting on the plane, and what we were going to do on the plane. Every time we brought it up he got excited about it and made his airplane noise. Our flight was at 6:30 in the evening so we let Logan take his nap before heading to Seatac Airport. We found a play area and figured Logan should get some energy out before having to sit for two and a half hours.

Then we had dinner in the new concourse and watched the planes take off and land. Logan was really excited to watch that. Then it was time to board our flight. We showed Logan that he got his own seat and safety belt for when he was in his seat.

He spent the rest of the time before take off looking out the window, checking out the tray table, and playing with his new toy that we gave him. Once he was in his seat and we were settled in he got a toy airplane that looked a lot like the one we were flying in. Every time something new happened on the plane we made sure to explain to him what was going on. Once we were in the air we took out the portable DVD player that Grandma Cathy let him borrow and he watched some of his show we have on DVD that we brought with us. It was definitely a good time killer and kept him in his seat while we were flying.
The only problem we had was on approach. Logan's ears started bothering him and he wouldn't suck on the lollipop we gave him or anything else that might pop his ears. That's when we decided to give him a good tickle. It must have worked cause after that he was fine. After we got off the plane in orange county we went get our bags and rental car. When we got out of the airport to go get our rental car we saw some palm trees and since they are something Logan has never seen in person we made sure to point them out to him. We were waiting in the rental office for someone to find Logan a car seat, (which they had to borrow from another company cause they ran out) he started walking around and saying "Palm Tree" (sounded more like Pom Tee) over and over again. For a kid who hasn't been too talkative he sure can pick up a new word pretty fast when he wants!
Originally we were gonna spend the first night with Mommy's friend Nichole and her husband Mike, but just the day before we were going to leave Nichole got sick and so we had to book a hotel room. We were disappointed but know that these things happen and we didn't want to get sick right at the beginning of our trip. Besides we were going to get together with them later in the week anyway. So we headed to the hotel and got some much needed rest.

Mommy & Daddy's 30th Birthday Party

This year Logan's parents turned 30. As their birthdays are just a month apart they decided to do a joint party with some friends and family to celebrate. To make it a kid friendly event they rented out 4 lanes of Chalet Bowl in North Tacoma. Two of the lanes were set up with bumpers for the kids and the other two were for the adults. Logan got to try his hand at bowling for the first time in a real bowling alley. He has a little wooden set at home he plays with but its definitely not the same. He gave a couple of good pushes down the lane then decided he had enough. He ran around our little area checking out the guests and playing with the other kids. Not to mention having a little dance party every so often. Mommy and Daddy bowled, socialized, ate pizza, and ran after Logan when he tried to escape. In the end we think every one had fun and enjoyed watching the kids bowl when they weren't having fun bowling themselves.

Fire Station Tour

On April 27th, Logan and Daddy had the opportunity to take a tour of a local fire station. We knew this would be a hit with Logan and so the moment we heard about it we made sure to get signed up. We were meeting up with a Mommy's group that Daddy belongs to, (yeah you read that right) as one of the members arranged the whole thing. The firefighters were very welcoming and showed us through the station. Logan got to see the rec room and kitchen area, followed by the sleeping quarters, gym, and laundry area. Then it was on to what could only be described as the main attraction. The Emergency Vehicles. Right after we got there a call came in and the whole group got to watch a Fire Truck and Ambulance scream off in response. That got the crowd very excited. However that meant the Large ladder truck wasn't there anymore. Luckily they had a reserve truck still there and the kids got to look at it. They all took turns sitting in the drivers seat and pretending to drive. Plus there is a lot of stuff on the outside to check out like the hoses and compartments full of specialized tools and gear.
About 20 min later the Big Ladder truck and Ambulance came back and so did the excitement. Again all the kids took turns getting in the drivers seat and walking through the crew area of the Ladder truck. When it was Logan's turn in the drivers seat he got really excited and started checking out the switches in the cab area. The person who was watching the kids in the truck kept having to switch things off that Logan was turning on. He said that most kids didn't get past the wheel. Logan likes buttons and switches! The Firefighters also opened up the ambulance and let the kids explore. As part of the tour each kid was given a plastic firefighter hat and tote-bag with an activity book and stickers. It was a lot of fun for both Logan and Daddy. They thanked everyone who let them come in and check it all out. For the whole rest of the day it was all Logan could talk about.

The morning came and so did the Easter Bunny! Logan came out to the living room to find his basket filled with goodies. He immediately ran over and began pulling all the good stuff out. The Easter Bunny brought him a stuffed duck, an egg shaped Magna-doodle, a book, 2 toy cars, some M&M's, and a chocolate bunny. Along side his basket was a little stuffed sheep from Grandma Lois as well. He immediately wanted to play with his new cars but eventually came back to the rest. He had Momma read his new book to him all the while clinging to his new cars. The rest of the day was pretty laid back as the day before was pretty busy. We did have an egg hunt in the bonus room downstairs and he had a great time finding them amongst, in, around, and under his toys. After he found each one he insisted on opening it and seeing what was inside. From then on whenever he wants something opened he says, "Pop!" and motions his hands from together to apart. Mommy and Daddy didn't take any pictures of the hunt. They just enjoyed Logan running around without worrying about capturing every moment. Every so often it is nice to get out from behind the camera and just appreciate what is happening.

The Day Before Easter

We started this years festivities off on Saturday before Easter. We found out about a couple of Egg hunts in the area that we thought would be fun starting with one at a local playground called the Fircrest Tot Lot. Unfortunately it was somewhat disappointing as there were very few actual eggs, (we estimated anywhere from a dozen to 20) and then a bunch of random candy strewn about the grass. With the massive amount of kids there, Logan ended up getting a few pieces of candy off the grass and then it was all over in about 30 seconds. Fortunately, Logan wasn't upset that he didn't get any eggs, but there were a few kids who were really upset that they didn't get any. We stayed in the playground for a few minutes to let Logan play and get his picture taken with McGruff the crime dog, but decided we were gonna head to the YMCA for their egg hunt.

The difference between the Tot Lot and the Y was like night and day! Not only were the age ranges for each hunt better, there was a huge amount of eggs all over. It took place in one of their auxiliary gyms and they had eggs all over the floor and somewhat hidden under mats, pads, and little traffic cones! Logan got his egg basket filled and had a great time doing it. After it was all said and done we headed out the back door for Logan to get a special treat. The nice people at the Y had set up a little frost-your-own-cookie kit. It consisted of; a sugar cookie, frosting, and sprinkles. Logan liked being able to frost his own cookie and then sprinkle the little colorful candy bits on top. It was yummy too!

That evening we decided to let Logan dye hard boiled eggs for the first time. He was excited and enjoyed dropping them in the dye and rolling them around in it. Eventually he got more interested in trying to dye his hands than the eggs. Then he wanted to keep combining the various colors, which we did let him do with a couple of them. Oddly they kept turning out black. It was a messy fun project for him.

Woodland Park Zoo

On April 16th Mommy & Daddy took Logan on his first trip to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. It is a bigger zoo, with some different animals than we find at our local zoo. One thing is for sure, he had a great time and we will definitely have to come back again.

Rainy Zoo Visit

Well this is Washington, and if your not willing to do things in the rain you might as well stay home for most of the year. Fortunately Logan doesn't care if its raining. We have his firefighter rain jacket and were good to go! The Point Defiance Zoo is a popular destination for Logan. Since we have a family membership, we can go on a whim and not worry if we only spend an hour or two there. Its perfect for Logan and for the size of the zoo. we usually miss an area or two every time we go but we try to go to those areas the next time. This trip was on the morning of April 4th and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. only 2 other cars in the parking lot when we arrived shortly after it opened.

Two years old? Where does the time go? Our little guy is growing up so fast we can't believe it. To kick off the big day we surprised Logan by having 30 (Ok, 29. One had a hole in it) red and yellow balloons waiting outside his bedroom door. Momma went in to get him changed and whatnot and closed the door behind her. Then Daddy took all the balloons which had been blown up the night before and put them in a heap outside his door and down the hall. He then opened his door and had a moment of pause before kicking through them and having a great time. Here's some pictures of the birthday boy finding his surprise.

After all that excitement we had a laid back morning with some cleaning and the like in preparation for his party in the afternoon. The party commenced at approximately 3:30 and with 4 kids who were 4 and under there was always something going on. as far as we could tell everyone had a great time and just let the kids play and run. There were a few times we focused on the birthday boy to have him open presents and sing Happy Birthday and let him blow out his candle! After the party the kiddo and the parents were all pretty tired but happy the party went so well. We are all excited to see what new things Logan will learn and do this coming year.

Logan's hair was starting to get long again so on New Years Eve we took him to Wild Child hair salon in the Proctor district to have it cut. This time it was a little more drastic than the last. We had it trimmed way down so pretty much all of his curls were gone. It was a little shorter than Mommy wanted but she got used to it. He did really well in the chair, which was an airplane, and got to watch some Thomas the train while it all went down. Daddy forgot to put the memory card in the camera so we took some shots at home of his new hairdo.

Christmas Day 2010

It finally arrived! Christmas Morning. Mommy and Daddy may have been more excited than Logan though. We all got up about 8 am which is Logan's usual time. We had breakfast and played a little until 9 am when Grandma Lois and Papa Bob arrived. They came to watch Logan open his presents from Santa. They of course had presents to give as well. We got through a few presents and he decided they were good and he was going to play with them. We don't think he fully understood that there were more to open. Slowly but surely over 2 hours we got them all open. After that it was getting close to lunch time and we were all in for a treat. Mommy made a special Lasagna that her Aunt Sharon in California makes for their Christmas gathering. It was tasty as usual and very filling. For dessert Daddy made a cheesecake that was yummy as well. Once we were all sufficiently stuffed it was time for Logan to go take a nap and recharge for phase 2 of Christmas day.
After everyone was rested up from the morning we headed over to Logan's Aunt Bre, Uncle Zach, Cousin Grace, and Grandma Cathy's, house. Uncle Asa, Aunt Echo, Cousin Hank, Uncle Drew, and Aunt Mandy were all there too. The kids ran around having a great time while the "adults" chatted and ran after kids. There was lots of Pizza for dinner and cake and pie for dessert. Stuffed again! We all opened presents and let the kids play with their new toys. Then all too soon we had to head for home to get Logan to bed and let the parents recoup. Christmas was drawing to a close for this year but we all had fun and it was good to have family all together again.

Christmas Eve for us was pretty uneventful except for preparing for the next day. Daddy made some cheesecake in the morning so it would set up completely by the next day and Mommy cooked and assembled the ingredients for lasagna. Mommy had the day off from work so Logan had both parents all day. Although one was usually doing something leaving the other to run around with Logan. Trading off periodically. After Logan's nap we decided to let him open one present. We did it after his nap so he didn't have to open it and go to bed shortly after. we wanted to give him time to play with it. It took him quite a bit less time to open this one than the one last year. Here are some pics of Logan opening his Christmas Eve present.

Daily Family Christmas

Every year on the Saturday before Christmas, Daddies side of the family get together to celebrate Christmas. Basically it is a big meal and lots of cookies with a gift exchange. Can't beat that! We went out to Puyallup to Aunt Betty and Uncle Scott's housing development's clubhouse. They have a couple of big rooms and it is perfect for having the ever growing family in. Logan had lots of fun running around with his cousin's Hank, Gracie, and Katherine.
After the delicious meal the kids got to run around again and everyone, (who wasn't cleaning up) got to chat and catch up. This was also our first time meeting the newest addition to the family, Benjamin, who is Daddies cousins Angela and Mike's 3 month old son. Like I said, ever growing. We then got to open presents. Logan had fun tearing through the paper to see whats inside. He even helped Mommy and Daddy open their gifts.

Every Christmas season the University Place Fire Department (along with many other fire departments) has Santa ride around the neighborhoods on a firetruck to give kids candy canes and a photo opportunity. we saw when he was supposed to be in the area and waited but he never came. It was time for Plan B! We saw that they were gonna go to the Trader Joe's on the night of the 12th so we went there to see him. He was supposed to show up about 8pm so we got there about 7:45 to wait so Logan could watch the firetruck pull in. Little did we know it would be just about 8:30 when he actually showed up. We kept Logan entertained by having him run around and even playing with a few other kids who were also waiting for Santa.
Finally he showed up and we got into the crowd to try and get a picture with Santa. Once we got up there Logan wanted nothing to do with him as you can tell here.

Otherwise Logan had a good time checking out the firetruck and doing something out of the norm. Here are a few more pics from that night.

Zoo Lights

Back on Friday December 10th Logan and his parents sat down for dinner. A dinner like many others when all of the sudden Mommy says, "Hey, we should go to Zoo Lights tonight." Daddy and Logan agreed as it was a clear night and no rain was forecast until the next day. It seemed like the perfect night to go. So we quickly finished up dinner and got ourselves all bundled up and headed to the Point Defiance Zoo.
The zoo had lights all over the place and Logan loved running around looking at all the different displays. He even got to see a few animals that weren't sleeping at that time of night. Mommy and Daddy were also enjoying showing their son something that they have fond memories of from their childhood. Definitely a holiday favorite in this household.

Thanksgiving 2010

We know its late but here it is anyway. This year Logan's Mommy and Daddy hosted Thanksgiving and everyone who came had a great time. It was a relatively small group this year as some people had other families to visit this time around. A total of 8 people gathered around our table; Grandma Cathy, Aunt Bre, Cousin Gracie, Grandma Lois, and Papa Bob. Not to mention Logan and his parents.
Everyone started to arrive shortly after Logan's nap and all congregated in the play room downstairs to let Logan and Gracie run around and get some energy out. The adults were just trying to figure out where it all comes from.
The Meal was good and Logan got to try a lot of different foods but, we think his favorite was the Pumpkin Pie for dessert. The filling and half the crust was devoured! At the end of the day everyone was tuckered out and Logan slept like a log. Having lots of people over can tire a kid, not to mention the parents, out.

Logan got to experience his first snowfall back on November 21st. This is the first interaction hes had with snow as last time it snowed he was much younger and wasn't all that aware of things. Boy, did he enjoy it though. He was stomping around and scooping it up with his hands and showing us that it was cold by shrugging his shoulders like he was freezing. We let him run around while it was falling and he had a blast. He didn't really want to come in out of it. Oh well, we know he'll have more opportunities to play in it again.

Loren and Addie's 2nd Birthday

Back on November 14th it was Logan's friends Loren and Addie's 2nd birthday party. And it was held at the Children's Museum in Tacoma. So when we got there it was mostly a free for all to play and run around exploring the children's museum (along with the general public). Logan had a good time running around but like every time we have been there he is instantly drawn to the fake car that is right near the front entrance. We did get him to go back in the other exhibits however he kept being drawn back to the car. He was having lots of fun though so it was not a problem. After about an hour they notified the people who were part of the party that we were heading down to a separate room to have a snack and cake and to have the birthday girls open presents. Once down there Logan had a snack and then got busy playing with the various toys and whatnot that were available to play with.

Then it was time for cake. All the kids got their own cupcake that looked like a kitty face. Logan was a fan (he was meowing at it) and especially liked the M&M's for its eyes. (He doesn't normally get sweets, and this was his first time eating M&M's). Shortly after that Loren and Addie started opening their presents and we all watched for a little while until Logan wanted to run around and play some more. That is when he got a hold of a balloon.

He was having so much fun running back and forth with the balloon trailing behind him, it was hard to make him stop at the end so we could go home. On the way out the door however we were given 2 more balloons and Logan was in heaven!
Once we got home and Logan had a little more to eat he got right back to work running up and down the hall with the 3 balloons giggling and squealing the whole time.

Halloween 2010

Halloween has come and gone and Logan had a lot of fun at the various activities that he got to attend.

He really liked jumping on the inflatable pumpkin we have.

Thursday October 28Th

First off was the YMCA Trick or treat on the Thursday before Halloween. A bunch of kids all got to play in costume in the gymnastics room (where Logan usually has toddler gym) and then as a big group we all walked around the Y trick or treating from the people who work there. I think Logan was a little confused as to why people were putting treats in his pumpkin at first but he got the hang of it pretty quick and held it out at each stopping point.

Sunday October 31st

On Halloween we decided to meet up with Grandma Cathy, Aunt Bre, Cousin Gracie, Uncle Asa, and Cousin Hank, to go Trick-or-Treating On the Gig Harbor waterfront.

As the costume is a tad bulky we waited until we were there to get him dressed.
Before we met up with the others we stopped in to the Ace Hardware so Daddy could say hi to a couple of old co-workers. They enjoyed seeing Logan all dressed up!

Zoo Boo 2010

This past weekend the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium put on their annual Halloween celebration, Zoo Boo! Logan got to get all dressed up in his Dragon costume and run around the zoo. We also invited Logan's Grandma Cathy, Aunt Bre, and Cousin Gracie to come. And since we are members we could get the 3 of them in for free. We met up with them out in the parking lot while we were getting Logan's costume on him. It would have been difficult to have him ride there wearing it since it is a bit bulky and has a tail! Gracie came dressed as a Fairy Princess. A passerby commented to Mommy how cute the combo was, a Princess and a Dragon! This was not at all planned. But hey, it worked!

The day went well and everyone had a lot of fun. Gracie got to chase Logan around, everyone got to see animals, and Bre and Gracie even rode a camel! Logan is to young to go on but he enjoyed watching them ride. Lastly, the kiddo's finished off Zoo Boo with a fun ride on the carousel together.

Pumpkin Patch

As it is closing in on Halloween we decided that Logan needed some pumpkins. We could have gone the route of grabbing some from the grocery store but we decided that Logan would have alot more fun if we made it an adventure. Thats when we decided to go to a pumpkin patch. We looked online to see what was in the area and finally landed on Hunters in Olympia. This also made it easier for Grandma Lois to join us as she lives there. They had all sorts of activities to do aside from the pumpkin patch like a petting zoo, Corn & Haybale mazes, and a few rides, although Logan was too small for most of them. He did enjoy the Chute slide which was really tall. After letting Logan explore for a while it was time to go out to the Pumpkins. Logan was really excited because we got to ride in a tram that was pulled by a tractor. That tractor had wheels that were as tall as Daddy!
After the ride we got off in the middle of the patch and got to look for our pumpkins. Logan had a great time going from pumpkin to pumpkin trying to find the best one. After a while of running around we finally settled on 3 different ones. Daddy carried the two larger pumpkins and Logan held on to one that was just a little bigger than his head. We got back to the main area and paid for our pumpkins and Logan got to sit on an old tractor which was on display near the entrance. He probably would have sat there for hours and pretend to drive had we let him.

20 Months Old

Logan is 20 months old as of October 13th. He is growing up so fast we can't believe it. He still doesn't talk much but he is pretty vocal. He does know some words and occasionally will attempt big words or phrases. He attempts to say "Double Decker Bus" when he sees it in the Richard Scarry, Cars and Trucks and Things that go, book. He has yet to be totally successful but he sometimes gets the basic sounds and pacing out. He loves to mimic animal noises like a lion roar, bear growl, sheep baa, and Mommy's and Daddy's favorite, the duck quack.
Logan is also quite adept at doing the motions of songs. He does all the motions for "The wheels on the bus", "The Elephant Song", "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and " The Firetruck Song" along with a multitude of other songs.
Daddy and Logan still go to swimming twice a week and he loves to splash and play in the water. They also go to toddler gym once or twice a week and he gets to run out a ton of energy there. He can also go up and down stairs without mommy or Daddy's help but they still insist on being there when he does just in case.
As of recent Logan has been really into Thomas the Train, much like his cousin Hank was, so we have been buying him some of those toys and videos. Mommy found a whole bunch of DVD's on Craigslist really cheap and so now we have a good little library of videos. Mommy also found a good amount of trains and tracks being sold as well and so we have been slowly (or at least trying to be slow about it) giving him new pieces so that the whole system seems new again.

Toddler Bed

On Sunday October 10th, we decided it was about time to turn Logan's crib into a toddler bed. So shortly after his nap that day Mommy, Daddy, & Logan all got to work on switching it over. We decided it would be in Logan's best interest to have him around while it was happening so that it wasn't a complete shock and it seemed like a normal thing. After it was changed over we put up a guard so that he wouldn't just roll out of his bed in the middle of the night. But it is situated in such a way that he can climb in and out of his bed at the top and bottom. Which he decided was fun and for a few minutes would climb into his bed at the bottom opening and then climb out at the top over and over again.

That night when it was time for bed Mommy and Daddy kept thinking about everyone who has told stories of their kids first night with the toddler bed and how they would climb out and not sleep, or get up in the middle of the night and wander around. These worries were unfounded however because other than taking some extra time to go to sleep he stayed in his bed and slept right through.
On occasion since he has positioned himself sideways in the bed and kinda woken up and complaining that hes stuck but not enough to wake completely. Also one night he had his head sticking out one of the openings and had to be repositioned. but other than that it has been a great success. We think he enjoys being able to to go into his room and climb into bed and play or turn his music box on all by himself.

Mommy & Daddy's Anniversary

October 1st was Mommy and Daddy's 5 year wedding anniversary. Congrats dear parents! Apparently they wanted to celebrate such an event without little Logan, can you believe it. They decided to go out the next day, as it was a Saturday, and leave Logan with Grandma Lois and Papa Bob. Mommy and Daddy had the grandparents come over a little before nap time so that they could leave during the nap and have Logan wake up to people he was expecting to be there.

Mommy and Daddy had reservations at a restaurant called Girardi's up in Edmonds near where they used to live in Shoreline. (They had celebrated their 1 year anniversary at Girardi's as well). It is very romantic setting with candle light, and wonderful Italian food and good wine! A nice place to go for a parents evening without the kid! They savored every bite of food, something they don't always get to do when Logan is around. Prior to dinner they went bowling at an alley near the restaurant, something they hadn't done in a few years. Then at the last minute, they also decided to stay over night in Edmonds making this the first time they had been away from Logan overnight. While they worried about Logan and how he was doing at home, they also enjoyed the peace and quiet of a nite out!

Back at home Logan did really well! He was kept so busy he didn't even notice his parents were missing! Didn't cry, didn't go looking for them, just enjoyed doing lots of things with the grandparents. After he woke up from his nap the grandparents decided to take him over to Gig Harbor to a park and to visit with one of their friends, Joyce, who lives only a block or 2 from the park. Logan had a great time running around the park and later chasing Joyce's cat around her house. After that they decided to take Logan to a mexican restaurant in the Harbor for dinner. Once they ordered Papa Bob and Logan ran around outside until the food was ready so he wouldn't get bored just sitting at the table. The rest of the evening went well aside from Grandma Lois forgetting her purse at Joyce's house and Papa had to run back over the next day to get it. He even let Grandma put him to bed that evening without a fuss, just took a little longer than normal to fall asleep, and he slept well.

Mommy and Daddy got home about lunchtime on Sunday and Logan was happy to see them! While he hadn't seemed to miss them while they were gone, after they got home he realized they had been missed. About 10 minutes after they got home, Logan starting whining and wanted to hold on to Mommy and not let go. He did this on and off from the next 20 minutes, in between going to play and whatnot. Guessing he had to make sure they weren't going away again anytime soon! Before the grandparents left he gave them hugs and kisses and waved good bye. And hang on tight to Mommy & Daddy to make sure they weren't leaving too!

Overall, it was a very successful night out for the parents, and everyone had a good time.

Spokane: Sept 24th - 26th

We decided it had been too long since we had seen some family and friends who live in eastern Washington. So we packed ourselves up and drove to Spokane where they primarily all live. The drive over went great. Logan slept for a little over an hour once we got on I-90 and then we stopped in Ellensburg for dinner and to fill up the tank so we didn't have to stop for gas again. Then we were able to drive straight through to Spokane Valley where Aunt Margie lives. She was kind enough to let us stay with her. (not to mention feed us lots of good food) We got in about 9:30 that night and Logan was happy to be out of the car. Although he did really well in the car as he barely complained, which was a relief for Mommy and Daddy. We spent some time visiting with Margie that night and let Logan explore his new surroundings before getting him to bed around 11pm.
The next day we hung out with Margie a little more in the morning and then decided to get Logan out of the house. Since it was gorgeous weather we headed to local festival where, instead of attending the festival, we found an awesome playground where he got to run around until lunch time.

Puyallup Fair

It's that time of year again, to "Do The Puyallup!" Momma took Tuesday the 14th off so we could go on a weekday and not have such huge crowds. Logan really liked seeing all the animals and the petting zoo part, but he got a little frustrated that he couldn't touch the animals that weren't in that area. So we decided to go back to the petting zoo area again later in the day. He really liked petting a bunny and was really gentle with him. He stood there petting him for at least 5 min straight. Unfortunately he wasn't able to go on any rides as they all said 2 and up. Even the carousal which he has ridden at the Zoo before so he was a little upset from that. Next year he should have more fun.

Logan's First Haircut

This evening we took Logan to Wild Child in the Proctor district of North Tacoma for his first haircut. Momma and Daddy have been putting it off because they love his curls so much but his hair was beginning to get into his eyes and bothering him. We decided to compromise and had it cut shorter all over and the curls are still present. Also he did really good while he was getting the haircut. He tried to grab the scissors twice but the stylist had faster reflexes. He also got to watch a Thomas the Train DVD during so he was sufficiently distracted. (he has been really into Thomas recently) Take a look at the before and after.

Touch-A-Truck 2010

Mommy found out about an event put on in the Sprinker Rec Center parking lot called Touch-A-Truck. Apparently it is their third year doing it and there are a whole bunch of trucks, emergency vehicles, repair trucks, tractors, and lots of other vehicles. Logan likes pretty much any vehicle so we figured he would enjoy it. And he did!

Once a week Logan and Daddy go to Toddler Gym at the Y. He has fun running and crashing around a padded room with lots of other kids around his same age.

This his his favorite ride on toy in the gym. Usually its the first thing he goes for.

18 Month Checkup

We took Logan in for his 18 month checkup this morning. He is doing great. Progressing like normal even if he is a little short and light for his age. But that's okay, his head size is making up for it. Here are the stats;

Height: 31.5 inches
Weight: 24lbs 6.5oz
Head: 19 inches

Seaside

We decided to take a mini vacation to Seaside Oregon on July 25th to the 27th. Just a couple of nights away from home and to give Logan his first experience with a sandy ocean beach. We had a great time and Logan really liked playing in the sand and water.

Massive (and totally overdue) pic update - Part 1

We went to Olympia one Saturday afternoon in March to visit Cambria's parents and see the sites down there. We checked out the playground at their church which we had all to ourselves on a Saturday! Then we headed down to the harbor to show Logan some boats and whatever else was there. Ended the evening by going out to dinner. We all had a wonderful time!

Pt. Defiance Zoo - first real zoo trip. We had been for Zoolights and the special Halloween event, but we hadn't just taken Logan to the zoo for the fun of it. We went on a Sunday morning in March, and it was pretty quiet (and many of the animals were doing much), but he definitely got excited about the animals we did see! (March 2010)

Checking out Tacoma's Children's Museum on the first friday free event in March. It was our first visit to the museum, and luckily in the evening it was not too crowded (since Logan was one of the smaller kids there and still getting steady of his feet we had to make sure he didn't get run over.). We went to the park this afternoon since the sun finally came out this holiday weekend. We were trying to work on teaching Logan to throw the ball, which he more of just drops the ball and it rolls. A work in progress. Then totally by chance, he started kicking the ball across this big brick circle area we were at. It was adorable and amazing! He really got got into it and was kicking it, then running after it and kicking it again. Austin got some video of it. Can't wait to watch it.

This is long overdue since Logan is almost 16 months old now. However, we still wanted to share his birthday with everyone, so here it goes.

Logan's 1st birthday was a blast! Lots of family and friends crowded the house and all the attention was on Logan, the birthday boy. Though, Logan had been really sick for the 2 days prior to his birthday and was a little weary of so many people in his house! Otherwise he appeared to have a good time! The little things

Sorry we haven't posted in a while. Mommy has been working lots of overtime, and since she usually updates the blog, well, as you can see it goes a little dormant. But mommy says when she has a little more free time she will get pictures up from my's birthday, she promises.

I have been learning new things every day that makes daddy smile and laugh as he watches me grow. I have learned how to clap my hands this week, which is very cute! Daddy & I went to a Caspar Babypants concert last Friday and I saw lot of people clapping there, it looked like fun. It was my first concert, and it was a blast watching live music and all the kids moving around. Daddy bought the cds after the show and we got them signed address to me and everything! Caspar even remembered meeting Daddy when he worked for Kiro 7 a few years ago. It was a neat!

I am walking with more balance and frequency all the time. I am more confident if I am carrying something with me and will go further. I think I am getting the hang of it. Though if I want to get to something really fast, I will get down and crawl!

Logan got a slide for his birthday from grandma Lois and papa Bob. Almost immediately, Logan learned how to climb up the slide (especially since I am usually in bare feet, which makes it easier to get grip.) I actually think it is great fun to "slip" and slide down while climbing, and do this on purpose, especially since it makes Daddy laugh! I also like rolling my cars, balls, and other toys down the slide and see how far they will go!

For a while now I have liked to play peek-a-boo or hide & seek by hiding behind furniture or a corner and after mommy or daddy says "where's Logan", I pop out and surprise them! Well this week, I decide to try to just close my eyes to hide, and then open them for a peek-a-boo. Daddy says it was adorable to watch!

Mommy has to run off to work, so this will have to be it for today. And again she promises to get some pictures up when she has a chance.

11 Months Old!

Logan is 11 months old as of Wednesday of this week. Mommy didn't even get to see him that day as she had to work late, but luckily Daddy took some good pictures. As you can see he likes to explore, get into things, take things apart, etc. Normal baby/toddler activities!

Swimming

Logan and daddy attend a swimming class at the YMCA two days a week. These are not lessons, but are a group class that has an instructor that leads games and songs in the water and helps both the parents and babies get use to playing and being safe in the water. Logan and daddy really enjoy being the pool and just having a different environment to play in. These pictures are actually from November, on the one day that mommy got to come watch the swimming class because she had the day off from work. Classes just started up again this week, and Logan likes being back in the water!

I got to meet Santa today! He was hanging out at Mommy's work to meet all the kids of the people who work there. He was even nice enough to let me have a picture taken with him. I saw other kids getting upset when they met him and I don't know why. I thought he was awesome!

9 month check-up

Logan had his 9 month well-baby doctor appointment this afternoon. He is a healthy happy baby!

His stats are:
Weight: 18 lbs 14 oz
Height: 27 1/8 in
Head: 18 in

Basically he is approximately in the 25% for his height and weight (but that also means he is average weight for his height), and then his head is approximately 60%. So he is still a little on the small side with a big head.

For his first halloween, a little boy transformed into a monkey! What a sight! He headed over to Gig Harbor to bring smiles to others instead of tricks. (Because honestly, who could be scared of this adorable little monkey!) He joined his cousin Gracie, the cow-girl, in the hunt for treats. And even though it was halloween, it was a sunny nice fun filled afternoon!

Logan took his first steps today! He walked a few steps completely unassisted. Then we got him walking back and forth between mom & dad, just to make sure we weren't seeing things! He is only 8 1/2 months old and on the move! Go Logan!

Russell Halloween

On the day before Halloween, Mommy's work let all the kids of the employees trick or treat around the offices. I was no exception aside from Mommy and Daddy not letting me have any candy. I did chew on a wrapped Baby Ruth and smooshed it into oblivion. Maybe next year I can actually eat one. I guess I was there to be shown off in my monkey costume.

Logan finally has figured out how to crawl without dragging his belly on the ground! It doesn't always happen but he at least knows how. when he does it he gets all excited and is trying to figure out how to go faster. Mommy and Daddy are gonna have to be on the lookout as Logan is getting more and more mobile every day.

Zoo Boo

On Sunday, October 18th we attend Zoo Boo at Pt. Defiance Zoo. Logan's cousin Gracie and Aunt Breanne joined us there, which was fun since Logan hadn't seen them in about a month. However he is not use to seeing Gracie in a bee costume and I think it confused him slightly, but he still recognized her and was happy to see her. We all had a great time seeing some animals and all the other kids dressed up in costumes.

Gas Works Park

On September 27th we headed up to Seattle to attend a baby shower for one of Austin's former Ace coworkers that are expecting a little girl in December. Since it was a beautiful sunny day and the shower wasn't until the evening, we heading up to Seattle early so that we could stop by a park and hang out some. We ended up at Gas Works on Lake Union. We walked around some, stretching our legs after the car ride. Stopped to give Logan a bottle because it was meal time. And enjoyed the view that we don't see as often since we moved down to Tacoma a couple years ago.

We then attended a very fun baby shower and all of Austin's former coworkers loved seeing Logan. He was a hit at the party! They couldn't believe how big he had gotten already and how much he smiles. He is such a flirt with some people! Oh, and we actually got a gift as well (which was created because of an idea Austin had), it is a Maple Leaf Ace Hardware onesie! So now Logan can help promote the store! They of course make many of them for the expecting couple as well. It was a fun evening, though Logan was exhausted by the time we made it home that night as it was way past his bed time!

So back in September, Grandma Lois and Papa Bob got Logan some toy cars and a train because he is so fascinated with things with wheels. They weren't here to see him open them, so these pics are for them so they can see how much Logan loved his presents! Thank you!

Cutting his first tooth!

Logan's first tooth finally started breaking through on Saturday, Oct. 3rd. You can feel the rough edge in his gums if you stick your finger in his mouth (which he is more than willing to chew on). And if he will open wide and let you see his bottom gums, you can see the white tooth just barely sticking through! Finally we have some proof that all his teething pain is paying off! (Logan has had some fussy days which daddy has had to handle on his own...especially last week when mommy had to work late. So it was fun to show off the new tooth to mommy when she finally got to spend some time with her boys on Saturday.)

Getting into new places

Logan started army crawling near the beginning of September. He has proved that he can be quite speedy and get into interesting places now that he is mobile! He actually does use his feet to help push himself around in addition to his arms, it kind of reminds me of a lizard moving around. Anyhow, here are some pictures that daddy took to send to mommy to show my great ability to get around!

Sept 18: crawling around in the living room, hiding behind the ottoman.

Sept 22: get into the saucer under my exersaucer toy. Daddy had a little trouble getting me out!

Sept 23: helping daddy with laundry. I crawled into this empty hamper on my tummy and then the whole thing rolled with me when I turned over! I thought it was a grand old time!

Do the Puyallup!

We attended the Puyallup Fair yesterday, Monday, Sept. 21st. Mommy took the day off work so we could go on a day that wasn't so crowded, with the hopes that I wouldn't get overwhelmed and have better chances of seeing the animals and exhibits. Oddly enough our good friends, Lisa, Scott and Byron (who is only 6 weeks old) had the same idea and ended up at the fair at the same time, so we got to hang with them too. And to make the day more enjoyable the weather was perfect, sunny with mid-70's, wonderful for being outside enjoying the day!

We got to the fair, and of course the first thing I enjoyed was looking at all the cars in the parking lots! Cars are the coolest, especially when they are moving! And there were so many cars there, it was very exciting! After we got into the fair, we had some lunch (mommy & daddy got to enjoy fair food, while I just had a bottle and stared at them wondering when it was my turn to try some scones).

Anyhow, then it was off to the barns to check out all the animals. First was the cows, which I didn't seem to care either way for as most were just standing there. Very boring animals. I liked watching the people sweeping the floors though! And then there were some llamas. I hear we are luckily that none tried to spit at us! Next we got to see the mama pigs and their piglets, and I even got to pet one of the piglets! He was really soft, kind of like the cats I have petted before. I tried to pull his ear, but mommy stopped me. Apparently animals don't like their ears pulled. And after watching the piglets fight to get to nurse with their mama, I am glad I am an only child and get undivided attention from my mommy!

Next barn at some goats and rabbits. There were pretty interesting. I think I could relate to the smaller animals better. And I was getting to see some of these animals that mommy and daddy are always making the sounds for.

We then went looking for a place to rest for a little bit before going to see more animals. While we were walking we came upon a hot tub with spraying water like a fountain. For those of you that don't know, in the past month or two, I have come to enjoy watching running water. If I hear someone turn on the faucet at the sink, I want up to see it and stick my hand in it. So of course, I was very curious about this hot tub and wanted to play with the water, which I proceeded to do getting myself and mommy all wet! It was great!

There were some tractors near the table we were taking a rest at. I kept looking at those big wheels and fun orange colors. Daddy let me sit in one of the seats so I could pretend I was driving!

Once we were refreshed, we headed over to the fair farm where you can pet more animals. Unfortunately I was getting a bit sleepy at this time, as I had only at a 30 minute morning nap, and it was now mid-afternoon and time for my afternoon nap. We still checked it out. I saw a baby duck, baby bunny, some goats, and some chickens. All were fairly interesting, but I didn't want to pet them. I was actually more happy to listen to the lady that was telling me how cute I was. I always smile for that!

We walked around a little more after that. Got some family photos taken at one of those little black & white photo booths. Mommy & daddy got some food called an elephant ear, which I thought was part of an animal, so am slightly confused. And then we decided it had been a good first time visit for Logan (after about 5 hours there), and time to head home. I was so exhausted after the exciting day (and lack of nap), that I fell asleep almost immediately in the car on the way home. It really was a fun day for the family, and I hope we do it again next year!
